There has been a massive increase in the sales of pork in Russia, at least that is the case if the sales noted by one of the countries largest meat producers are repeated across the board.  Cherkizovo, saw an increase of fifty percent in pork sales whilst chicken sales increased by four percent in the first half of this year.

Of course it may not be just the great taste of the Cherkizovo’s meat which is encouraging customers.  As the company points out in its report, pork prices in Russia are currently around 27 percent cheaper than they were this time last year, having fallen from RUR81.32 per kilo in the first half of 2012 to RUR59.24 in the first half of 2013.  Prices however increased by six percent when Q2 is compared to Q1 of 2013.

Across the entire range of its products, Cherkizovo has seen a two percent increase in sales in volume in Q1 2013 when compared to the same period of 2012.

A similar trend can be seen from the company’s wheat business.  Here volume sales fell in the same period by 43 percent, clearly linked to a 52 percent price increase.
