Media Markt and X5 to introduce RFID tags in stores in Russia

The German consumer electronics and home appliance chain Media Markt is to introduce RFID technology (radio-frequency identification) in its Russian stores. The first merchandise categories to receive RFID tags will be accessories and multimedia as they are stolen most often says analysts PMR.

In turn, and major food retailer (in terms of revenues)X5 Retail Group is to start testing RFID technology in its stores (Pyaterochka, for sale Karusel, Perekrestok) in December. The project will be implemented in co-operation with local high tech companies ? the state corporation Rosnano and Sitronics.
