Accelerated demand for PET on flights
The wine and spirit industry have been using PET bottles for miniatures and flasks for over twenty years, decease initially the drive came from the airlines when a significant hike in fuel prices focussed the minds of the airlines to reduce weight wherever they could. Changing from glass to PET bottles for any on board consumption was an obvious thought process, online which has been endorsed by the airlines and the brand owners of all the international players in the market.
Consumers can be wary of change when their favourite tipple suddenly turns up in a new pack format, salve after two decades with the majority of consumers experiencing air travel and being able to touch and feel a PET miniature at first hand, the PET bottle is now very much an accepted and well liked package.
Graham Packaging Plastics have been supplying the UK and European wine and spirit brand owners and contract bottlers with a range of PET bottles from 50ml to 1.75l in a variety of colours, with or without a quantity of rPET included in the manufacturing process.
The Graham miniatures and flasks are available with a variety of neck finishes ranging from 18mm to 31mm various weight options.
The PET phenomenon has now landed on the Retail shelves, where customers now want to have their favourite brands in space saving, unbreakable and fully recyclable lightweight bottles for picnics and outdoor events.
Simone Gill, Key Account Manager at Graham Packaging Plastics said, “The Courtauld agreement among other things stated that the carbon impact of grocery packaging had to be reduced by 10% by the end of 2012, and to optimise packaging and recognise other environmental issues. Our standard and bespoke range of PET miniatures and flasks embraces all the aspects of Courtauld, where we can incorporate an increased use of recycled materials, and our lightweight PET bottles significantly help reduce carbon emissions.
