German packaging winners announced in Nuremburg

At a formal award ceremony on the evening of 24th September, medicine 27 innovative packaging solutions from home and abroad were presented with the German Packaging Award 2012. Among the winners of this seal of approval “Best Packaging 2012″, and 14 were from sales packaging, viagra four from transport & logistics packaging, four from display and promotional packaging and one label solution. In the area of packaging machines, two submissions were awarded the title “Best Packaging Machine 2012″. Also among the young talent, the jury found some very compelling work, two of which were presented with a young-talent award.

This performance-based competition is organized by the German Packaging Institute (dvi) and is under the patronage of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. It is characterized by its cross-material products, ideas and concepts, groundbreaking in terms of economy, technology, aesthetics, ecology, sustainability and convenience.

 

Better, cheaper, more communicative and more sustainable ? that?s how the innovations in the packaging sector in 2012 are presented according to the organizer. Among the award-winning packaging solutions there are pioneering solutions to optimize costs in new processes and materials, and innovative possibilities for savings in raw materials and energy. There are also innovative ideas and solutions to improve efficiency in production, transport and storage as well as in terms of ease of use and consumer benefits. Not least, creative ideas and efficient improvements show how highly effective and versatile packaging can also be when used as a sales and communication tool.

 

According to the motto “only the best packaging“, numerous national and international designers, developers, manufacturers and users of packaging and packaging solutions sent their 232 innovative solutions into the contest for the 35th German Packaging Award. A jury panel of independent experts and specialists from professional associations, major research institutions, universities, the press, and industry reviewed all the submissions for two days according to up to 12 criteria.

“Of particular importance was the degree of innovation”, emphasizes Burkhard Lingenberg, Board Member of the German Packaging Institute and the person responsible for this performance-based competition. “Sustainable innovation plays a key role in the development of our society. Packaging as a multifunctional and indispensable element of the modern world plays a key role too – from food and medicine to car parts to offshore containers. The 27 award-winning packaging solutions stand out in a generally very high class field. They show how successfully the packaging industry rises to its responsibility”.

 

The winners of the German Packaging Award 2012 come from the foodstuffs, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries, are packaging materials and packaging manufacturers, brand owners, designers and agencies. The names include Unilever, Nordenia, Nestlé, the Munich University of Applied Sciences, Gerresheimer, Oberland M&V, Stolzle, Constantia Flexibles, Karl Knauer, Tubex, Diageo, Kao, Carl Edelmann, Gissler & Pass, Poly-clip, Smurfit Kappa, Seyfert, Hoffmann Neopac, DS Smith, Rako Etiketten, G. Gühring PAKi Logistics, Schuler and Teepack.

 

The award ceremony of the German Packaging Award took place at a gala ceremony in front of about 330 guests and industrial leaders. Accompanied by the show hosted by the singer and presenter Kathie Kleff, representatives of the winning companies received their certificate and trophy. During the subsequent reception, industry talk in a relaxed and professional atmosphere led seamlessly on to the opening of the ?FachPack? exhibition. Here visitors can experience firsthand the winning packaging solutions at booth 459 of the dvi in Hall 6 until 27th September.
