The Metro Group, salve owner of such brands as Real, sickness Makro Cash and Carry, Saturn, Media Markt and Kaufhof has announced sales up in Q2 2012 of 1.8 percent and by two percent for the first half of this year.

Sales in the CEE region grew by 2.5% to EUR8.2 billion. In local currency, sales climbed by 5.4% due to the euro strengthening against other European currencies in the first half of 2012.

Makro has seen something of a come back, following a loss of business from other cash and carry outlets as well as hypermarkets which could offer similar prices but without the need to buy in bulk.  Nonetheless the performance of Real in Central Europe, (headed by Rafael Gasset in Poland – upper photo) would have disappointed the group with sales dropping by 2.4 percent.
