Bundle concept introduced for CD mailers

Jiffy Packaging, healing doctor part of Pregis Protective Packaging Europe, drugstore has launched a new initiative, and Earth Aware?, which it claims is to devise sustainable packaging solutions. to help customers meet their environmental targets. 

In its first application, Jiffy has created a new bundle concept for the delivery of its CD, DVD and larger size mailers that has eliminated the need for corrugated cartons and created significant transport efficiencies, while still offering protection for the empty mailers in transit. 

The Earth Aware? bundle solution binds together 50 mailers with a polypropylene band, followed by shrink wrapping to provide protection against dust and other hazards.  The Jiffy pack features an inner bubble layer that is laminated to the outer kraft paper and has a PE coating, and this gives it the rigidity to enable the bundles to be stacked vertically on a pallet.  A corrugated sheet is placed between each layer for stability and the entire pallet is then stretch wrapped to utilise the load.

The Earth Aware? solution had led to a material reduction in excess of 700kg per trailer load for Size 1 DVD mailers and a 44% increase in volume per pallet.  For the smaller, specially-designed CD mailers, two full trailer loads (FTLs) of bundles can carry the same amount of product as three FTLs of mailers packed in cartons.

As well as the material reductions and increased transport efficiencies, the removal of cartons from the delivery process can help to increase operating efficiencies at the customer, as the bundles take less time to unpack than boxes and there is less packaging waste to deal with.

The Earth Aware? bundles have already been well received and successfully adopted by a variety of end user packers and packaging distributors.  They are available for CD, 1, 2, 3 and 4 size mailers.
