Whereas this publication has suggested that this month’s football may not push beer consumption up significantly for the entire year and that factors such as the weather also need to be taken into account, we did not consider the question of beer stock piling which several retailers now believe to be happening and backed up by opinion polls which suggest that this is occurring. There also appears to be stock piling of cigarettes, but to a lesser degree.

Research by the Odido chain in Poland found that 42 percent of males intended to buy more beer than usual during Euro 2012.

Running around chasing a football is energetic work needing strong standards of physical fitness, especially from those watching the game at home on television.  It is therefore quite worrying that a number of media outlets, as well the word in various drinking establishments in Poland, that stocks of health food may not be sufficient, especially as far as beer is concerned.  Indeed retailers have suggested that there has been the biggest demand for any one single product since a rumour around ten years ago that there was about to be a shortage of sugar.  The cure is of course stock piling as much beer as possible before the football begins.
